Taskbar Problem

Hello, I use Ubuntu 8.10 (with gnome). I have a problem with theming my task bar. The notification area is never themed properly and my installation of globalmenu bar messes up my theme. How can I fix this? Also, on a different note, how can I uninstall the globalmenu bar (for future reference) and move all of the menus (file, edit, view, etc) back to their respective windows?
