gnome system monitor disk usage doesn't work on ext4 partitions

I'm using kernel 2.6.29 and I enabled ext4 support within it on Intrepid-amd64. I can read/write just fine to it but the odd thing is that when I'm using rsync to move data, my gnome system monitor's disk usage doesn't show any activity...???
