I am thinking about trying to use WICD for network connections. Should I use a tar or Deb / If not what release?
Thanks

Adding the repo from here (http://wicd.net/download.php)and installing it would be easier then compiling (tar) and will install any dependencies automatically and will provide updates.

If you have a deb package you can install it by double clicking on it.

After installing, log out, then back in. A new network applet will be in the tray. It's also under applications>internet.
