Hello everybody,
After 20+ years of heartache and frustration I jumped off the Microsoft Express Train to Computational Inadequacy three years ago when I switched to Macs. I'm very happy with Mac, but have a growing interest in Linux. So when I found an Asus eee PC 900 A on ebay yesterday, I snapped it up, and have been reading up on it. Looks ok, but comes with the Xandros distro, and I really had my heart set on Ubuntu. To this end I am currently downloading Ubuntu 8.10 on my iMac so I can install on the eee when it arrives. Couple of questions though.
The eee doesn't have a CD drive. I've read that you can install Ubuntu from a bootable ISO on a thumbdrive by holding down the Escape key while the machine boots, and then selecting the thumbdrive as the start up volume in Bios. Is this correct?
How do you make a bootable ISO on a thumbdrive in Mac. Or should I wait and do it in Xandros?
Eventually I'm going to want to upgrade the SSD in the eee from 4 GB to something bigger. Any one know the best way to get Ubuntu installed on a blank SSD drive?
Thanks
