Hello.

I have installed intrepid ibex (8.10) on my 150gb harddrive with wubi. I have been running it for a while. I am told it needs to be defragged every now and then as it is ruunning on the dumb NTFS. how do I defrag it? Do I use smart defrag? or JK defrag? where do I run them from? which operating system?

and

How do I backup wubi ubuntu installation? Do i copy the root.disk file and I am done or what.

please explain as fully as you can.:D

Hi, you should be able to backup by coping c:\wubi\disks. To defrag your system you would do it from windows.

According to Wubi's developer, Wubi was never meant for long term installation. It is only intended to be used to try out Ubuntu.

Agostino: Wubi actually wasn’t designed to do long-term installations. The main aim was really to let people try out Ubuntu with confidence. Normally, users that start with Wubi tend to upgrade to a full installation to a dedicated partition at the next release cycle.
If you really want to use Ubuntu for the long term, you should strongly consider installing Ubuntu the real way. Install it to a dedicated partition on your hard drive. You will also learn much as you become a more competent linux user.
