I am brand new to Kumbuntu- thanks in advance for any help.
Downloaded Kubuntu 8.10 Desktop i386 ISO
MD5Sum checks out
The Machine in question was frankensteined and given to me several years ago- I am not 100% certain, but I think it's about a 1.6Ghz AMD processor. (**don't know if it is 32 or 64 bit- How can I tell?**)
It was originally running XP pro SP2.
I repartitioned the hard drive, hid the "old XP partition" at the end of the drive, and created a new primary drive (C Drive).
Next, I boot the machine from my new Kubuntu Installation CD.
I choose "English"
I choose "Install Kubuntu"
Please note that up until this point, the keyboard seems to work fine
Then the welcome screen comes up, but my keyboard no longer works.
I have tried 2 different keyboard (Both PS2, neither USB) but nothing's happening.
My guess is that I need different drivers, a USB keyboard, or I may not be able to use this GUI method of installation. Any other suggestions? THANKS!
UPDATE: turns out this machine must be 64 bit- I downloaded Kubuntu 8.10 Desktop amd64, burnt the disk, and the install is proceeding quite nicely. Sorry to waste forum space!
