I'm been on windows since, 3.1x you know the control panel type of windows back in 1997 something like that ever since then I've been using windows from win2k to XP, to vista !

then today I installed ubuntu, i did install xubuntu but it seems xubuntu was just half of the real ubuntu so I installed ubuntu on C: and since my laptop is a acer 5315 things are pretty good system runs fast on 1 GB 1.9 GHz celeron. Wireless driver is restricted Thu but working good.

I've got to admit ! windows vista is quit far away from the user experience that ubuntu is offering so I'm here, posting my first screen dump of my new ubuntu system :D I'm pretty happy I installed this pretty system. :KS:KS

and now my screen capture ! yahooz

I'm glad to hear you had no problem with anything not working.

"Restricted" just means it's not open source, it has a proprietary license, rather than something like the GPL.

Most people would prefer to not have to use it, but they are happy enough so long as everything works ;)

Wow, nice theme :)

...and <glares at wolfen69> good idea to use Wubi first instead of jumping in full tilt. The full installer (via a CD) is pretty easy to use so don't hesitate to do it in the future, but Wubi is definitely the best way to be 100% safe and nondestructive!

Glad to hear you're enjoying Ubuntu. You'll see that the community behind it is the best thing you could have in software world.

And (like me) it's really nice to have all the hardware pieces working out of the box, without the need to compile this, and that.

As I can see in the screen shot you have showed, this is 'missing':

# aptitude install msttcorefonts

These are the fonts from Microsoft, that will power up Ubuntu's eye-candy even more!

Good posts!

Yay, thanks for posting, it's always great to see happy new users. It's really exhilarating exploring a whole new operating system (there's life beyond Windows!).

It doesn't matter where you post it. The point is that you use it and find it appealing and useful.

I like your screenshot. I tend to keep my desktop as close to the Gnome/Ubuntu originals as I can. Otherwise, usability becomes an issue.

Anyway, I'm glad you've got things working well.

If you want to trick out your display a bit, check out this website:
http://www.gnome-look.org/
I get a lot of themes from there, and you can even see some of my artwork there too.

Here's how my desktop looks at the moment:
