To play mp3s etc.??

I have been using Amarok, but now I am trialling Songbird. I would like to see what else is out there.

Casual listening of songs when browsing the collection in Nautilus -> Totem.

On the background when I have friends over or something -> Rythmbox (playlists).

I don't bother with others anymore, as those two do what I want.

You can try: Banshee, Listen, Exaile, Gmusicbrowser, MPD, Beep, Audacious, ... if you are looking for something else.

Can it sync an iPod?

EDIT: Rhythmbox I mean, thanks for the list!

MPD.
I am working my way through some streaming front ends but so far I can control my playlists and stream to my Nokia E71 via wireless.

Try that with Amarok.

Same here.
I have tried other programs too, but totem seems to do everything I need...

MPD, simply because my music resumes playing during the booting process, and it has wonderful front-ends like ncmpcpp.

VLC, it practically does everything, and its simple to use.
May install Songbird for my iTouch, but my Mac already has that use.

( and if I start using Linux for my iTouch, what will I ever use my Mac for...? )

Songbird. Accept no substitute.

Like I care about bloat. I have a C2D E7300 and I want to work it, baby (also, this hardly counts as "working it" {seriously, a P3 could probably run it[no, really]}).

I stream music to my stereos using squeezecenter (there`s an awesome gnome-do plugin that lets you manipulate what`s playing on your stereo from your keyboard)

For radio though I use mplayer. I`ve created aliases in my .bashrc for my favourite stations. For example if I want to listen to XFM Manchester i just type
xfmm and there it is playing in about 1.5 seconds.

Oh and I use Banshee and gtkpod-aac for my ipod.

Exaile. Used to use Amarok but didn't like the theme. Tried Songbird but it wasn't working too well.

Banshee, because I only accept the best

I really, really, really want to like Banshee, but the thing that stops me is that it doesn't use libgpod for iPod support. Its uses its own library for this and it doesn't work nearly as well as libgpod. Other than that it's perfect.

Banshee for syncing iPods.

MPD and NCMPCPP for listening.

Used to use Banshee and it was great for listening but am now using a headless MPD server connected to my amp and speakers for listening controlled via NCMPCPP.
