Hi,

I am newbie in Linux, and I heard good thing about Ubuntu 8.10, so I am trying it out on my old Dell P3 system.

However, I got these error...
file "/user/bin/ubiquity-dm", line 267, in <module>
"dm.run(*sys.argv[3:1])
file "/usr/bin/ubiquity-dm", line 113, in run
raise XStartupError, "X server failed to start after 60 seconds"
... etc

I attached photo of the error here.. hope you can help.

Hardware, it is Dell XPS - Intel P3-850Mhz - 768M Ram.

Thanks in advance..

The nature of your error may be immaterial! Have you checked the cd for errors? A cd read error is a common problem which can be rectified by reburning your installation cd (maybe at a slower speed). This is also the subject of a well justified rant about the susceptabily of an install failing on this account! Try http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1114556 for tips on how to proceed.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I used the "Check CD for Error" option on the installation menu to verify if the CD is ok. It doesn't show any error.

Before I tried to install Ubuntu, I used the same CD to do Live CD on a different computer, I was able to boot up. However, I can't even do that on the P3 system under Live CD mode. So, I the problem got stall when I got that error when I try to install it.

I will try to reburn an other CD and give it a try again.

Thanks
