View Full Version : [ubuntu] Move X client windows between screens?

I have a multi-head setup, NOT using Xinerama. I'm not using Xinerama because I use multiple virtual desktops (workspaces) on each Screen. Each Screen has its own DISPLAY (ie, :0.0, :0.1, etc.).

Currently, GNOME allows me to move a window to different workspace on the same screen. I'd like to be able to move a window to different Screens as well. I'm willing to restrict it to other Screens managed by the same X server instance.

Does anyone know whether there is any current support for something like this? If so, how do I turn it on?

If there isn't built-in support for this, are there any current projects that add this? If so, what are they?

Finally, if nobody's already working on this, are other people interested enough that if I implemented it, would it be accepted? Do I need to work with the upstream projects (xorg and GNOME) or Ubuntu? I suspect getting this working will involve significant work on xorg, and I don't want to step on any toes.

Thanks in advance!
