How to connect to IRC

I want to connect to irc://irc.gimp.org/gimp-users to get some help in Gimp. I load pidgin and add an IRC account, type in a username and password but when it connects it says "Could not connect to Host".

I think you want your host to be just
irc://irc.gimp.org/
And then you add a chat room for it named
#gimp-users

I suggest the XChat Gnome IRC client, it really works for me. :d
