So i'm rather new to ubuntu and i recently heard about this conficker worm thing thats supposed to currently be making its rounds. so i know linux is pretty much safe but i still have to ask, am i susceptible to this worm? also how exactly is this conficker thing getting into peoples computers? and how would i know if i have it? any response would be helpful.

thank you!

To cut the story short, try reading this article (http://blogs.computerworld.com/100_cure_for_conficker) and this previously posted thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1110074).

And NO, you're not susceptible if you're using Ubuntu.

I don't think Linux is vulnerable to it. It would take a lot of time, rewriting it from scratch, as the Linux API is different from Windows'.

I've never heard of a virus that could work across different kernels. What makes conficker scary is that it exploits several flaws in the Windows architecture that are necessary for usability. What makes conficker scary is that no one knows if whoever made the virus has found a new security flaw in Windows

No need to worry. Conficker is made only for windows so far. Even if those crackers try to make it for linux they'll have to put a lot of effort. So, hopefully it won't be there for linux anyday.
