trying to install ubuntu server using alternate cd on gateway solo (old)pII 300 128M ram. I can get as far as installing the base system and then get debootstrap warning. error://cdrom/blah/blah/blah is corrupt. I have run the check cdrom integrity on my desktop and it passes the test. I checked the md5sum it is correct. When I run the integrity test on the target machine it fails.

Is it necessary to have a internet connection to do installs? I know I have done installs before intrepid without internet connection.

Is there a problem with the cdrom drive? I read something about disabling dma on boot.

I have been installing Ubuntu since dapper. I have never done a install on such an old machine.

thanks in advance.
