Hi Guys,

My first post. I decided to take the plunge and dual boot my windows XP with Ubuntu 8.10. Please bear in mind I am completely new to anything Linux.

I booted my PC from the Ubuntu disc i burned, all went well, the setup partitioned my second 180Gig hardrive. Installation was complete, but when trying to boot from the master hardrive, there is no option to choose which operating system to load and grub just gives an error 16. I have tried to follow instructions on reloading grub but none of it has worked. I am not sure if i fully understand how the partitions and drives work. My mind tells me that if i want to put by default from XP then my BIOS needs to be set to boot HDD-0, but I am not sure where grub should be...

someone please help in plain english!

thanks to everyone in advance.

This is one reason I so strongly suggest people NOT dual-boot using dual-drives. Hopefully this link will help you out:

well, i just formatted my main harddrive, so now i guess i will take it as a blessing in disguise and just load ubuntu as the operating system and leave the slave drive out of it. thanks for the reply.

... just load ubuntu as the operating system and leave the slave drive out of it.
A wise choice. May the Ubuntu be with you...
