I just started learning Python. I've never really done any desktop programming before, however, I do have some experience with PHP, Ruby and Bash scripting. Currently I'm working my way through Diving Into Python, and while it's very informative and great for a cheat sheet - I'm more of a "learn by doing"-kind of guy.
So what I'm looking for are super simple exercises that I can do to learn more about Python. If you have any ideas for some simple, yet potentially useful scripts, that would be great.
Thank you.

I'm the same, I think that I may have struggled with a number of programming concepts in the past because of this.
I'd like to hear any suggestions too! :)
EDIT:
P.S like the website, you adapted the design from a Nettuts tutorial? I want to do something similar!

Here's a website with lots of tutorials. Some should have exercises as part of the tutorial. http://www.awaretek.com/tutorials.html
I'm familiar with this site and know that each section of this tutorial has exercises. http://www.openbookproject.net/thinkCSpy/index.xhtml

Yup. It's nothing fancy really. Getting the twitter and flickr feeds to display properly was a bitch though. :P

Thank you. I'll be sure to check those out. I found a pretty neat tutorial-type-of-thingy here (http://www.upriss.org.uk/python/PythonCourse.html) that has lots of exercises.

A great site for practicing Python, in the style of notpron "the hardest riddle on the internet": http://found.boxofjunk.ws/post/51161854
