Hi,

is it possible that you use an Intel 945 GM graphics chip?

I had this problem in Ubuntu 8.10 (screen stays dark, had to reconfigure to use VESA).

There was a bug for 8.10, which is claimed to be solved:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/278259

But the problem still is the same with the enw Jaunty 9.04 Beta...
