When I try to use the themes I install of deviant art, it just says this does not appear to be a valid theme.
What can I do to get the theme working?

Is the extension '.theme'? You should just be able to double click on it and it'll work

They're all windows theme files
(.theme)
Do I need to extract them, first?

They are all Windows themes? That won't work, sorry. It has to be themes for Ubuntu. Windows themes and Ubuntu are totally different.

For Gnome, head to http://www.gnome-look.org/ to find great themes.

Should I just use KBFX, as I think I like the look of it.
Also, do you know any good themes to make linux look like windows?

If you really wanted it to look like Windows, you could try Beryl (http://www.gnome-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=103&PHPSESSID=a9dc15d184e8857d98ee6a704558f938). Once again, gnome-look has themes for it.
