Hi,

I have an old laptop with 224mb free ram (I guess the other 32 are taken for graphics. Is this enough for me to install & run ubuntu?

I don't know about Ubuntu proper, but I've run Xubuntu on an older laptop with only 196MB of RAM.

Regardless, you'll have to use the "Alternate Install" CD - the LiveCD requires 256MB...

Enough for Ubuntu? Possibly, but not recommended.

Enough for Xubuntu? Yes, and it will be usable (I have used it on a 256MB shared laptop).

I assume you are not a Linux buff, and would therefore steer you away from the lighter Ubuntu environments for now. If you want a speedier experience, consider Puppy Linux or TinyMe.

And yes - Xubuntu will do wifi. It uses the same Network Manager app as Ubuntu.
