People upload files to site. Site changes rules. People must pay or lose files.

Just imagine if Gmail did this. I've got over 2000 emails tied up in their service, and just imagine if they decided to charge for it one day.

In Kodak's defense, she has until May 16. That's about a month and a half. If she can't find another provider by then, then I think bigger problems are afoot.

By the way, Google does charge for certain aspects of Gmail (& apps). If you need extra space, expect to pay a premium. Businesses will pay the price for Google Apps (mail, docs, web, etc) as well, it's something like $200/year/account.

That's the point though, you hand over all control of access to your stuff.

Then I suggest we stop paying them.

I use online services as a backup (including emails).

But I always keep an original.

Same story for any digital information of value: Keep a backup somewhere.

Worst case, keep 2 separate online backups (with different companies).

Ugghh, if cloud computing ever becomes the norm, I would just become a computer hermit and join some darknets

I would never subscribe to this cloud computing stuff :)
