I have the Sansa Fuze, which supports OGG and FLAC, and works perfectly in Linux. And it was only £50.00 with a free 4GB microSD card :)

How much space you need?
Me 2GB is more then enough with a sansa clip.

Lots of space at least 20 Gb i think...

But i see it supports mini sd cards. Then the storage wont be a problem for me that i can carry an extra sd card. And also the price is very good.

Thanks for the advice man. But in Türkiye the price is 100 $ for the 2GB version. And for the 8GB it is 211 $. And the dollar is high in these days :(

Unfortunately it doesn't...the biggest Sansa Fuze you can get is 8GB

Yeh the clip is quite limited, but it does fine for what I needed it for (a basic MP3 player for me to carry around, I didnt need anything fancy)

So you say i bought the 4 GB i can only add the 4 Gb sd card. And so there is no need to buy the 8b version. I could buy 2Gb which is cheap than add the 6 Gb sd card and gain a 8gb sandisk for a much more low price?

no such thing as a 6gb card, they come in 2, 4, 8, 16, 32...
anyway, yes you could buy a 2gb sansa fuze for example, and add a 8gb card for a total of 10gb.

Panasonic do 6GB SD cards.

Panasonic do 6GB SD cards.

wow, I stand corrected, It is rare to see off numbered cards, like 3, 6, 7, 5... I think cards that are off numbered are probably the rejects of, say a 8gb card, where some "banks" of memory fail, so they sell it as a 6.

Like my current processor is a dual core, but it physically has four cores on the die, just two of them are disabled. Anyway, I'm off-topic...

anything from Cowon. i've had the D2, iaudio 7 and now have the S9. they are all extremely good portable players and work great with linux(the only thing you can't do is install the media manager 'jetaudio' but it sort of sucks anyway.)

i think the D2 has had an upgrade too and is better than the old version i had. amazing battery life too.

So Cowon or Sansa? Which one is the best? Or what are these players' advantages and disadvantages?

I have the 4gb fuze and love it. I also have a 2gb micro sd card for it. I mostly use it for audio books but will play music when working around the house. Worth every cent I paid.

Is the bass response any good on the Sansa Clip and Fuze? (are there even any controls?)

Good bass is really important to me (and vorbis and flac support!)

I have an 8gb Sansa Clip - it needed a firmware upgrade when I purchased it but since then it's been superb - all my music is encoded as ogg, quality 9. It even syncs using Banshee :) It was very cheap too

I wish D2's weren't so expensive still.

I just bought an 8gb Sansa Fuze to replace my iPod, it's a wonderful device. I cannot recommend it enough.

just looking at the Sansa page...the "SlotMusic" feature (add-on SD card) is really neat. But they don't appear to have adjustable bass/hyperbass effect.

There is an EQ feature but I haven't messed around with it since the defaults are pretty nice.

The Cowon D2 has great sound....it's not the easiest to navigate though...

that might work...sounds like it might be one of those freq presets according to music type

It has both that and a user presents EQ

Hmm my main aim is music and battery life is important for music(cowon d2-52 h) but navigation is hard you say. Maybe i am gonna prefer Sansa Fuze or Clip.

I did that, and quickly returned the 2gb as it did not work. I got mine from best buy and they have had half of the 2gb returned. Now the 4gb had the latest firm ware on it, and the 2gb firm ware was over a year old.

Just an FYI

8G sansa clip was on sale, unadvertised, for $49 at Walmart earlier this month. I read about it on an anythingbutipod.com (http://anythingbutipod.com) forum.
Great reviews there and an outstanding price for that amount of storage and a very usable interface. I had to ask the clerk to look under the case, because they didn't even have the 8G's displayed.
Almost worth the visit to consumer hell.

Personally I can't recommend Cowon products. I had an A5 a few years back and admittedly I used it every day for about 7 months but then the battery died over a matter of days. After that I couldn't even plug it in to use it as a 20G storage device.

I bit the bullet and paid the premium price for an Ipod classic (80G). Again I used it pretty much everyday... it's a little under a year old and now refuses to sync properly, podcasts all report times of 00h 00m, unless I reset it and then some get deleted, others play fine.

So I've replaced it with an 8G Sansa Fuze. So far I'm pretty impressed with the Fuze. Truthfully the Fuze is the cheapest MP3 player I've ever owned and it offers more features than either the A5 or the Ipod.

I read somewhere that the D2 doesn't work well for keeping songs in order if you just want to listen to album from beginning to end. Any of you D2 users experience this?

Otherwise, from the rest of this thread, it looks like I'll be picking up a D2 soon.
