OK, I'm sorry if this particular question has been answered before, but I just can't find it. I swear I looked!

I have a Dell Dimension e520 w/GeForce 7300 LE. I'm currently running 8.04 with nvidia-glx-new driver at 169-12*. It just works, wonderfully, and I am loathe to cause any issues as I use this workstation A LOT.

I did not upgrade to 8.10 because I was told there were problems with NVidia drivers. I never looked into it to much.

I'm looking at 9.04, not looking to do it yet but was wondering about the drivers, and after reading the 8.10 Release Notes and bouncing around the forums and Q&A, I'm wondering if I would have a problem upgrading or not.

Will I be OK going to 8.10, and/or 9.04 when that is officially released?

Thanks in advance for any help (and re-assurance that I'll be OK)!

i upgraded to 8.10 from 8.04 because i find the nvidia driver situation better in 8.10. i update to the latest nvidia proprietary prereleases for 64 bit Ubuntu 8.10 and nvidia 9600GT, 180.41 currently, from www.avenard.org (third party software source "deb http://www.avenard.org/files/ubuntu-repos release/")using System-->Administration-->Synaptic Package Manager. i am not sure which programs are needed so i install all six provided:
nvidia-180-libvdpau
nvidia-180-libvdpau-dev
nvidia-180-modaliases
nvidia-180-kernel-source
nvidia-glx-180
nvidia-glx-180-dev
