I downloaded and burnt the kubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386 cd yesterday.

And today I am trying to install it on a Dell Optiplex gx240
Spec
256mb Ram
20gb HD
Pentium 4
Video is built in on motherboard

And my problem is when I put the cd in boot. I choose install kubuntu the blue bar scrolls for like 5 minutes then goes to a blank screen with a blinking courser "_" and then nothing else.

Please be gentle im new and i want to really learn and understand linux

Thanks for and help in advance

I have a GX240 also, do you have the large tower or the smaller version? Mine has an ATI rage 128 video card and I did not have problems, check your CD in another computer if possible, use a new cdr and re-burn at low speed. By the way it uses PC133 ram, you can find some cheap RAM here http://www.geeks.com

I think you are shy on ram and will need more (probably 512 minimum) for kubuntu to install from the live CD. It will also run pretty slowly if you can get it installed, so look for more ram first and you may have more luck.
