I've got a Sony Vaio laptop (GXR516MD) which was given to me with XP removed. I'm trying to load Ubuntu onto it via the CD/DVD drive, but it keeps saying that an Operating System can't be found and I can't start the installation. Has anyone out there got any suggestions?

Cheers

If you have a bootable live USB, configure it to be the default hard drive to boot from the bios, then go through installation. When done, go back to your bios and change it back to the main hard drive in the computer. Hopefully this made sense.

Good luck!

Cheers for the help. Finally got it sussed. I put a cleaning disk in the drive and hey presto it started to read the boot DVD
