That won't work. Windows users are fully convinced that Windows is the only way to go. Even if their identity gets stolen, data corrupted, etc., Windows is still the only solution.

I like the single reply to that article

"glad I don't use windows"

Aleady a thread closed on this topic. Let's keep it friendly. Prepare the field rations :P

I find it rather sad that so many people (including the media) seem to consider an entire computer lost just because the Windows operating system has a virus. They just don't get the whole "software runs on top of hardware to interpret and present stored data" thing even though it's a basic concept at the heart of all this stuff. Why don't the people with the power to do so teach it?

Just reinstall the OS, please, or (of course) install a different one.

I'm actually kind of excited. I wonder if it will play a victory song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI)?
(Granted, I would be pretty sad if they took down gmail or something)

12/31/1999 was D-Day for Windows Users, don't you recall? lol

There are so many threads around the Internet right now about the Conficker virus, and while it's sad that it propagated to all those systems, properly patched boxes with menial security measures that have been available since mid-October 2008.

Shame on sysadmins who didn't patch their Windows machines back then (sysadmins at my company were in this boat, all of January was spent fighting Conficker).
