I am trying to install Ubuntu 8.10 on a Compaq EVO 510D system. The machine previously had 7.0 on it. The user was having some issues with Firefox (Was a beta version).

The user had no data files so decided would do a complete fresh install and upgrade to 8.10. I downloaded the ISO, verified the MD5Sum was good. Burned the CD, booted to the CD and ran the Check CD for Errors. No errors. I initiaed an installation, telling it to use the entire HD for the install. The install proceeded without issue. Got to the screen asking to reboot followed by the screen indicating to remove the CD, close the tray and press <enter> to continue. I did that.

The system started the reboot process. It give the Ubuntu Logo with the progress bar under that. Heard the Boot music/sound and then the screen just goes blank. I attempted to re-do the install and get the same results.

Not sure what is going on but how do I get it to complete and come up to the desktop?
