Hi You dedicated people out there!
I've just done a new install of Kubuntu 8.10 desktop AMD64 for a new mobo and cpu
AMD phenom x4 and Asus m4A78 Pro.
All seems ok except that the networking needed tweaking which I can do, however...

i. there's a strange problem with garbled key mapping when I use vi the arrow keys and the numberpad keys give letters or letters with a return.

ii. (I think this may be related), if I cntrl alt f1 to get the shell, I lose the vga. cntrl alt f7 takes me back to the desktop ok though.

I think this may be a driver problem and there are drivers on the mobo disk. However, There is no sign of the disk cd drive anywhere in /dev - can't find it, can't mount it!

Has anyone come across these strange behaviours before? Are they possibly related?
Any suggestions??

Thanks

Simon
