back to gdm from kdm

Hi every body.
I installed kde 4.2 on ubuntu 8.10 and during the installation process, i selected kdm insted of gdm.
but now, i want to restore gdm. becuse since i use kdm, i can not login as root.
i set a password for root with " sudo passwd root " and edit the " /etc/gdm/gdm.conf " file too.
