Installation of programs

I was kind of wondering what the difference is between synaptic and add/remove. I don't have any problems using either, but it may be easier to just use add/remove if I don't have to type in the admin password. They just seem extremely similar to each other.

Add/Remove is geared more toward new users; it should still ask for your password when installing something.

add/remove is not as advanced as synaptic (it's meant for beginners I assume)

synaptic has way more options

FYI, from what I understand they are two different GUIs that use the same backend - basically just a different screen and a little different method of searching for packages.

Suggestion: use the tool that best suits what you're doing at the time.
