It was working fine untill I plug it a projector in the secondary VGA connection. After the projection ended, I removed the projector, the computer acts like the driver has been switched to standard VGA compatible or something. No hardware acceleration, terrible tearing when movig windows, all the desktop effects are gone, etc. Obviously all attempts to activate them throwu the windows appearance application hasn't succeed.

To try solve this, I've uninstalled the package: xserver-xorg-video-intel. After uninstallation, I've reinstalled it again (in the hope it'll get working again) but nothing has changed. Ubuntu is still not using hardware acceleration on gnome.

Currently, the information displayed on the lspci command is:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)

This is a known bug with the Jaunty. I have found a fix that works, and it can be located here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/intel-graphics-performance-guide-for-ubuntu-904-jaunty-users.html

The first method has you recompiling the Kernel. Since I am uncomfortable with that, I did the second method, and it fixed the problem. I am running 9.04 on an Asus EeePC 900HA, and after following the guide, with no problems.

I had a similar problem. When I changed the display my xorg.conf file got written over (without prompting) and the gui tool can't set things back.

Thankfully I kept a backup of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and was able to recover my settings by copying over with my backup.

Solved!

I solved all the problems with my graphic card installing the new drivers and reconfiguring:

sudo nvidia-settings --uninstall
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-video-intel libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri xserver-xorg-core
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
