Prevent certain windows from appearing in gnome panel window list applet

Does anyone know if there is a way to filter certain windows, or preventing certain windows from appearing in the window list in the bottom panel without having to recompile the window list applet? I am trying to do this from Java. I am aware that JWindows do not appear in the window list, but I am trying to do this with Frames/JFrames.
