View Full Version : The New Look. How About Something Warm?

If blues and greys are considered to be cold and corporate, how about some nice, homely, toasty reds, golds and oranges for the default Ubuntu look?

Make the desktop invoke sitting in front of a nice log fire instead of admiring the works of that bloke who paints with human waste :p

I think is should be with black, with reds, oranges and yellows.

What you're describing sounds the same as what we're using now.

I once to thought this Mark76 but have to say I'm now inclined to disagree. Why? because Ubuntu always has evolved on a micro scale.

To introduce a new color scheme would be like having a macro event thrown into the mix. It could have a profound effect on it's user base, which is not always a good thing when trying to maintain a reassuring familiarity and unity, it's the spirit of Ubuntu. The end users don't see the ever changing code but they do see substance with color (I think). I have always changed my theme which would seem contradictory to my point, but with every new release experience the desktop spirit which connects me to these forums and the people etc.

A slow assimilation of user base helps with moderation in these forums, a huge influx would disembody, it's bad enough moderating oddballs such as my self, as it is!

Anyway I've just woke up so I may be odd-balling again!

Some people are suggesting the Macchiato theme, I would be in favour of something like that.

The theme is usually the FIRST thing I change whenever I upgrade. From what I've seen so far, Jaunty will be no exception. I'll switch back to my personal favorites (Gnome): Mac4Lin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin) and Elegant Brit (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Elegant+Brit?content=74553).

I've tried other themes, and they're pretty, but the default Human theme simply rocks. It just stays out of the way.

I'd be happy just to get a couple people to help me with the theme or for it to become part of the community themes package. I'm thinking of starting a Launchpad page for it just like the guy who made Dust.

Oh, and Macchiato is up to 13,000 downloads! :D

I think it deserves a place on the Ubuntu ISO, it's that good. I could help with testing but I'm not very bright when it comes to code or anything.

You couldn't of said it any better. I love the Human theme.

In 8.10 the Human theme conflicted with many Nvidia graphics cards running the provided 173 driver.

Whoa! That's different. It looks like someone took a sepia photo of an Ubuntu screen some time in the 1920s.

I think the Human theme should be kept as the default, but there should be a wider range of alternate themes installed by default.

Ubuntu should be technicolor! That is the way of the future! ;)

Honestly, just use a brighter, more saturated tone of orange (and perhaps go with slightly more small-screen friendly x/ythickness defaults) and Human would be a great theme. No need to supplant it.

That's what I was thinking of.

And change the default panel colour. It's far too Macish

Got bored. I get hacky when I'm bored, apparently.

Don't actually have the Human theme installed so that was the default Clearlooks theme.
