Hi i have been using a dual boot system (xp and ubuntu) and wanted to try other linux distros, so i installed one on an external hard drive. now however i can only boot when i have it plugged in otherwise the grub menu won't work (i get error 21).

Does anyone know a way around this? or alternatively how can i safely remove my new OS and go back to dual booting safely?

thanks

i installed Slax 6 on a WD passport, works fine but i did not used GRUB to boot it to bypass editing the menu.lst.

i used the BIOS to boot the USB device Directly similar to a CD if your BIOS supports it.

Please don't start multiple threads on the same subject.
I posted a solution in one of the other two threads
