that looks like it would help but for some reason after i installed kde and made kdm my desktop manager not all my menus are the same.. like i cant right click and "configure desktop" its the same as when i was using gnome.
i did sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
is there something else i should have done.. seeing as how after looking in synaptic i see kde and its uninstalled.
infact most everything still looks the same except for a bunch of "K" programs

You're right, there seems to have been a number of changes, with a few problems, also.

You can have an activity connected to a workspace. The support is experimental and there is no gui to set it up in kde4.2.
