I want to try to install ubuntu (alternate probably, or edubuntu) on this machine:
CPU: Celeron 1 GHz
RAM: 152 MB (the rest is used by the video card)
HDD: 40 GB
Video: VIA Tech VT8361/VT8601, integrated
Sound: integrated

I don't know other details, but will it work on this?
These will be the programs used on this PC:
- internet browser
- messenger
- open office
- multimedia player (music and video)
- some programs for astronomy from the repository.

Just a thought, if Ubuntu 8.10 can't work on that machine You might consider puppylinux which tiny in the need department.

Just in case

Good luck
