I have a Dell Insprion 531 with an ATI Radeon HD 3850 graphics card installed. When I try to boot from the Live CD I downloaded, I see Ubuntu load for a while and then the screen flashes a few times until I get a message telling me that the maximum resolution my monitor supports is 1440x900 60Hz. Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how I can fix it?

I used Roxio from Windows Vista, but the CD itself is fine. It works on my old HP laptop.

resolution detection is not liking your display, if this is 8.10 live cd try the 8.04 live cd
8.10 has a known problem with 3d graphics and nvidia, however i know nothing about if it is common to ATI also.
you could also try the alternate cd method to install.
