Hello

I have an old PC with the following characteristics.

->Intel Celeron R CPU 2GHz
->255 Mb Memory RAM
-> Creative 48Xmx cd drive
-> A new empty hard drive disk WD 80Gb

I am trying to install Ubuntu 8.10-server.

I have downloaded and checked the iso.

I get A drive error and I press F1 to continue.

The iso disk is loaded, and I English and "Install" .

But then the programm either asks to reboot the system or I am taking a lot of errors of this form:

[ 39.8... ] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1398493

and

[ 154.23... ] Buffer I/O error on device sr0 logical block 325466.

i have tried the procedure many times and I have the same problems.

when I also try to Install Kubuntu 8.10 I get the same errors.

Is it a problem of the PC-cdrom, RAM?

What should I have to do?

Thank you.

1. Did you run the checksum to check the integrity of the ISO image before you burnt it?

2. Did you burn it at a slow speed like 4x?

3. Did you run check cd for defects at the first screen after you boot from the CD?

p.s. I wouldn't try to boot Ubuntu LiveCD (desktop CD) with only 256MB of RAM. If you really want to use a window manager, try the Xubuntu alternate CD.
