View Full Version : [ubuntu] [Help] Boot freezes until button pressed

I have recently switched back to 8.10 from 9.10 and in 9.10 i had a problem with booting up it would freeze unless a button was press and held till it booted until i updated the kernel to 2.6.28-9 then the problem went away now im back on 8.10 where it always does it ive never gotten it fixed im on 2.6.27-11 can anyone give me good details on how to upgrade my kernel to 2.6.28-9 or help me fix the problem in 2.6.27-11. i have done research and the problem is my chip set i think i have a mcp67. if anyone could help it would be very appreciated thanks

The problem is kernel related. For some reason, on certain machines, and in particular HP/Compaq laptops, there is the behavior you describe. On a compaq presario F750US, I merely press the power button once it hangs, and it continues to boot without further intervention on my part.

The reason I say it is kernel related is that the same behavior is exhibited with 8.10; Linux Mint 6; and openSUSE 11.1, all of which use the 2.6.27.x kernel.

Is there anyway to upgrade to 2.6.28-9 i had 2.6.28-8 in jaunty and it still hangs only on 2.6.28-9 is where the probly is fixed
