I used to use Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE4.0 on my laptop. I would frequently connect it to an external monitor and use
xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS --mode 1024x768
To extend the display to the second monitor.
I upgraded the system to 8.10 and upgraded KDE to 4.2. Now, running the xrandr command will log me out and bring me back to the login screen. After logging back in the xrandr command will work. This isn't a random error, as the first time running xrandr after booting the computer will always log me out.
Any ideas as to how this might be fixed?
