ya, I want to know that too. I'm fairly new to ubuntu so I don't understand the releases yet. I belive they're every six months. I'm wondering why hardy heron is geting support for such a liong time and intrepid is newer and much shorter support. Do the .04 releases get more support?

9.04 = April of 2009

Karmic Koala is 9.10, October of 2009.

Git it?

Hardy Heron is an LTS release, they come around only every so often. LTS = Long Term Support.

I would like a specific date, if known. I knew it was coming out in April.

You can find a detailed schedule for Jaunty here - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/JauntyReleaseSchedule
For example, you can see that the Release Candidate comes out on April 16th, with the final release a week later.

You can get alphas now if you really want to be on the bleeding edge. Anyway, it is not really a good idea to jump into a new release on the release date unless you have some pressing need. There are usually only a few thousands of people testing so many problems do not show up until after the release because not all the millions of hardware configurations are or can be tested in time.

That said, if you want to be sure your machine is supported fully by release, install the alphas and betas and report bugs. If you are not willing to join in the testing the bug reporting, and having your system regularly get massive updates and do strange things, it is not for you.
