My problem is that Ubuntu sometimes just jumps to read only mode for all partitions and devices and somehow freezes up. I tried to use ctrl+alt+F6 (and lower) to fix it, but it would not budge and gave me an I\O error listing every partition while making it impossible for me to type any commands. After forcing a reboot, my BIOS prompted me to insert a boot drive (while the hdd was in) and I only got it all running again after I completely turned the power off, waited and started up. It has happened for about the 3rd time this week after about 2 days running the system.

I've installed the newest Ubuntu and I love it, but something is probably really wrong. While installing I chose to make the partitions myself, because for some reason I could not force the installer to give Ubuntu more space (or just did not know how to). My partitions are:

150G (Win XP pro), 50G (Ubuntu), 2G (Swap partition), 181,2G (FAT 32)

I've searched the net and forums and many replies involved a fsck to solve this problem. It did not help.

Did I mess up the partitions? Is the FAT too big? Is it the bios?

Thanks in advance.
