I am going to build a machine for a friend. He wants it around 15in. He also wants to know if I could get it clear. Anyone know where I can get the pre-molded plastic parts? I know where to get the hdd, ram, cpu, etc. Also, do they come with a motherboard and screen? Thanks!

I have never built a laptop before, I have fixed many, just never built.
Desktops are my profession :)

DIY laptops are usually barebones laptops. This meaning it's preconfigured with Case, Screen & Motherboard. You then spec the CPU, RAM & Drives you want for it.

It's not really like building a custom desktop PC. I know Asus had these at ones stage so maybe do a search for Asus barebones laptop/notebook.

The cheapest one I could find was way more than one bought as retail, why is this?

Oh, I wasn't paying attention to the graphics (it'll be an office laptop with Windows 7).

I am still having trouble finding a basic bare bones for around $450..

Remember, you're getting a good sized monitor, as well as the mainboard/GPU/PSU/box/keyboard/wireless card/battery/ and optical drive--if I'm reading correctly. You're getting basically everything minus CPU and memory....at least I think I am reading correctly

My friend a few miles away uses Tiger direct. But I'm sure your correct, since in this town there is a new country every few hundred feet.

At least that's how it seems...
