Hey people.

I make music, and I know other people here who make music too.

I also know some are programmers, some make themes, some create images.

Feel free to post your art here.

Share your art, for this community is not just about an operating system, it is about sharing yourself.

----------------------------

This is a new track I have made: http://trashis.alrig.ht/music/Void_of_Yearning_-_Voice_of_The_Creatures.ogg

This track, for me, represents all the voiceless animals who are suffering in the meat industry.

Feel free to comment, and even flame, I'm simply glad to share my creations with you.

Thanks! And I didn't notice that you had posted your song. I really like it! I love the mechanical feeling of the beat, it adds a lot to the feeling of a meat processor type setting.

For me that's just pictures of random, cheesy stuff.

I know we should uphold the CoC, but for crying out loud guys, there is a picture in there from a piano with a rose on it.

The majority of great pictures is from trivial stuff..the perspective makes the photographic art, not the subject. If the subject is something to be amazed about, then itself is the art, not the photo..

I don't know if I made myself clear :(

I like the photos BTW. I wish I had one of those cameras. I'm sticking with my point-and-shoot for now :D

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I for one(or at least 2 in this case) don't get it though. Maybe the art part of my brain is broken, or something.

Great photos, bashveank. I checked out your flickr and I really like "Blue Hour." It reminds me of my friend's house outside of town that we used to hang out at during high school. After seeing that picture, it makes me want to photograph that house when I get back to my hometown.

I'm still learning as a photographer, but here's two shots of mine that I really like:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3133/3151842352_561039384f_m.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3538/3357120276_6d58cb0fe9_m.jpg

I've had mixed results with a point-&-shoot, but I've seen some good shots by others with similar cameras so I know there's a lot of room left for improvement.

Thanks! you have some great shots yourself, there. The second one you posted has something unique about it, the colors, the texture, the composition.... As for the first one: One of the fundamental rules of photography is to not place the subject in the center, instead put it in the upper right, upper left, lower right, or lower left :)

I'm not really an artist, but the creative part of my brain isn't completely dead. I used to do a lot of webdesign, but I kind of gave up on that after a few years. Now I just tend to do some simple illustrations for lulz whenever I need a new avatar.

Here's my latest creation (I go by the name of Eight on some other forums).

I don't use Ubuntu, so I can't give you a definite answer, just do apt-cache search *ogg*

or you can get gStreamer, it more than likely has an ogg codec.

EDIT -

P.S: bash scripters, if you have a nice little fun script you want to share, you can do it here, scripting and programming is a form of artistic expression too.

Nikon D40, 18-55 kit. This is actually an HDR from 5 images, tone mapped in Photomatix Pro, further processed in Aperture.

Since I forgot to say what I was using in my previous post, it was a mix of the Nikon D200, D40, the Lensbaby Composer, and the Nikon 18-55. All processed in Aperture.

The 1st shot was with a Canon SD 990 IS point & shoot. Developed in GIMP.

The 2nd two were shot with a Nikon D90 / 50mm 1.8 lens. Also developed in GIMP.

Aside from taking photos, I also like to experiment with the GIMP (as well as other tools). I usually dump these works into this Facebook album:

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2346744&id=1935302&l=7aee889875

Most of these are by no means final products - they're certainly rough - but hopefully as I improve they'll evolve into good-looking designs.

I really love your work in GIMP. There are some great tutorials out there, however it's been a while since I've dabbled in webdesign.

The metapixel flickr image is amazing! Was it very difficult to process? I've thought about making a metapixel image for a friend who has an obsession with toilets. Don't ask.

http://trashis.alrig.ht/music/jwkejrk22222222222_version2.mp3

I couldn't think of a title for it, so you can either call it by it's filename, or untitled, or whatever else you want.

Also, in the future I will either add streaming on my website, or I'll just upload my tracks with a video to YouTube.

I used to have a MySpace account, but had no real use for it, so I deleted it.

Eisenwinter
March 18th, 2009, 10:22 PM
I used Cubase SX 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steinberg_Cubase), I use it for all composition.

Unfortunately, it is closed-source software which runs only on Windows.

But it allows you to create any imaginable sound, add effects, create melodies, etc.

It's a VST host.

paaaah be gone with your proprietary ways ;)

lmms can host vst's. not as well as cubase can, but its getting there. but i would argue you can create every imaginable sound on there too if you have the skill.

i've literally just finished the writing of this track, still a little tweaking to be done but 80-90% finished

http://www.sendspace.com/file/opdyop

it was written in lmms, didn't use any vst's for this one. i used the native instruments in lmms (which are pretty good, but i do use vst's when i need) also samples sent straight from the crypt of RMS.

Here is a fairly simple Perl script I made.

It uses the feh program to set backgrounds. It cycles through all the files found in the given directory, and sets the next file as the desktop background, then sleeps for X seconds.

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;
use File::Find;

#feh background cycler.

#First, retrieve files.

my ($dir, $sleeptime) = (shift, shift);

print "Searching $dir for files\n";

find(\&search_, $dir);

my @Files;

sub search_ {
my $fname = $File::Find::name;
if ($fname =~ m/\.jpg$/i) { push(@Files, $fname); }
}
print "Found $#Files files in $dir\n";
#Files retrieved, now lets cycle through the array and set a background each time.
my $i = 0;
while (1) {
my $background = $Files[$i];
print "Setting background $background - next background in $sleeptime seconds\n";
my $feh = `feh --bg-scale $background`;
#We have set the background, now lets sleep.

sleep($sleeptime);
$i++;
if ($i >= scalar(@Files)) { $i = 0; }
}

Note that the .jpg format is hard-coded into the searching function here, you may alter that to your needs, should you use this script.

Usage, in terminal: perl <script filename> <directory> <sleep time>

Example; perl feh.pl /usr/share/archlinux/wallpaper 30 - this will search the directory /usr/share/archlinux/wallpaper for images, set the first one, then sleep 30 seconds before setting the next one, then sleep for another 30 seconds before the next one, and so on.

well i have some stuff to share, although i'm not sure how it will stack up to some of the other stuff on this thread. here is some of my music:

http://darkmusic.coolpage.biz

check out the "Dual Malaise Tracks" on the right hand side. I posted 41 songs I recorded a couple years back when I had too much time on my hands. unfortunately, the songs were recorded using Garageband (on my 14" iBook). I played the piano/organ/synth, saxophone, bass, vocals, guitar (on a couple tracks), and I used pre-recorded drum samples.

and here is some of my artwork:

http://darkmind.shim.net

the links are along the top - Artwork (Logos and Wallpapers), Portfolio, and GTK. i'm proud to say, ALL my artwork was created on GIMP.
