gnome list search - make it use an expression

You know how one can open any list (i.e. a folder) and start typing, then gnome will select the first occurrence of that text?

Is there a way to make it match an expression for example "*ruby*.rb"

And what do you call that search? I can't find it anywhere on google... lol

I found the solution:

Ctrl + s

OR

Edit --> Select items matching...
