Im looking to upgrade my system to be able to edit video, create 3-d animations, and play games. Right now my sys specs are as follows:

description: CPU
product: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+

description: Motherboard
product: GA-7VT600

2 DIMM 400 MHz cards
size: 512MiB

video card
product: NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440]

sound card
product: SB Live! EMU10k1

*-disk:0
description: ATA Disk
product: WDC WD800JB-00JJ

*-disk:1
description: ATA Disk
product: Maxtor 6Y060L0

Have a look at this Bare bones system (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4509497&sku=B69-0038), it should do what you need.

You might want to consider ubunutu studio (http://ubuntustudio.org/)
