Damn Small Linux on an external HDD?

About 30 minutes ago my XP laptop died. I have no idea why except for the fact that it never leaves the boot screen. So, I am going to install DSL on an external HDD so that I can back up all my files before i install Intrepid. Is there anything I need to do specially to get DSL installed?

You can install into a Flash Drive from the DSL Live CD. There is a special program to do so.

I looked into that and was just about to when i thought... WHY THE HELL AM I TRYING TO PRESERVE WINDOWS???!?!! and installed ubuntu. in the process, i wiped my hard disk. shivvers Halo CE withdrawl sucks
