googling the same word brings different outcome on ubuntu and windows. is this normal?

is it because of the ubuntu edition of firefox or is google sending different results?

(it is probably a stupid question eh? :) )

yes it's normal google looks at the user agent. on youtube right now i changed my user agent to be windows xp and there's an ad about google chrome on the page, when i change the user agent back to linux it goes away.

i changed my user agent to 'monkey toaster' once, i admit someone else thought of it first though lol.

Yep, and with the most recent Google Ads stuff, any time you have an account with a site that site can use for example their own data on you to deliver more relevant advertising. Good thing, in my opinion. (I just consider advertising to be searching in reverse, then consider that I won't buy their products anyway and continue letting the advertisers waste their money).

it is just that it is distracting some times.
for example, I looked for get.live to download w.l.messenger and I got a script (that is not really working by the way) from sourceforge.

anyway, thank you :)

you must be very strange because most people don't care about cursors lol.

i use a complicated way to change my user agent, but there are firefox addons that can do it, it's best to keep the correct user agent though, it's used to give you the correct pages on the internet, like downloads etc.

i'll have a look for a firefox addon, are you using firefox?
