Okay in windows you can Cascade windows and align them horizontally or vertically. In 3.1 I think you would Press CTRL+ALT+Delete and click the button, in 95+ you right click the taskbar and select from the menu. (I didn't know that until a while after, when I was like in 3.1 you could do that but not newer windows, but then I found out)

I ability to have the windows go into position with a single command and not have to resize and move each one has been essential for me.

Is there a way I can do this is Ubuntu?

If you are using compiz ("Desktop Effects") then you can do tiling.

You need to first install some compiz plugins by installing the package compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported and the package compizconfig-settings-manager.

Then launch the CompizConfig Settings Manager from the Preferences menu, and enable the "Tile" plugin.

This applies to Ubunut 8.10, and I don't know about 9.04.

I turn on Tile and it magically turns it self off, wtf?
