hello all
would like to get your advice on the following
hard to describe...but lets try...
- new 8.10 installation on 2 core 2.8Ghz with 1Gb memory PC
- Separate partition for Ubuntu \ and another for \home as well as for the swap.
- XP partition on drive as well as extra NTFS for XP data files.

now...all is working fine ...but

can not use gui for update upgrade or adding software adding packages and so on.
I can get in, chose software / package / upgrade ...than I get the admin password screen and than either it doesn't let me type the password and freeze or does let me type the password and than freeze erasing parts of the download window or just gray it.

I can not close it other than finding it and killing it

same with root terminal ...I get to type password...the terminal is opening and than it freeze. in this case I can force quit.

as said on top...using normal terminal and command line everything seems to work fine.

any idea ?

thnaks every one
