Is client access to samba by key pair possible??

I have a setup where Windows clients on the local net can access a samba public share on an ubuntu HARDY 8.04 machine for file storage/retrieval. I finally got it configured so the clients do not have to login (ease of use). I suspect this is not at all secure to an interloper that might somehow get onto the network, but it makes the whole arrangement very "useable."

Is there a way to set up samba so logins still are not required to use the share, but that shared key files are necessary, i.e., that the appropriate key file would have to reside on the client before samba grants assess to the share? That would provide fairly high security, yet continue the no-login ease of use.
