whenever I try to remove gedit and gimp I get this error in synaptic package manager:

E: gedit: subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
E: libgimp2.0: subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 2

The programs wont even launch, and I want to get rid of them or reinstall them.

Hi, open a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal) and post the output to

sudo apt-get --reinstall install gedit

I tried to reinstall gedit:

michael@michael-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get --reinstall install gedit

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gedit: Depends: gedit-common (>= 2.25) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: gedit-common (< 2.26) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
michael@michael-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get -f install gedit

gedit is already the newest version.

So I obviously need gedit-common.

This is what happens when I try to install gedit-common

michael@michael-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get -f install gedit-common

gedit

Gimp works great now, so gedit is my only problem >.<

Try

sudo mv /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gedit-file-browser.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gedit-file-browser.schemas.old

sudo mv /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gedit.schemas /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gedit.schemas.oldthen

sudo apt-get --reinstall install gedit and see if gedit now works, or if you still want to remove it

sudo apt-get remove gedit

I get this error whenever I try to do anything to gedit:
